Primary Duties
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the association office.
- Oversee association finances.
- Represent the association at local, regional, and national functions.
- Lead, guide, and support the Board of Directors, Standing Committees, and Staff.
- Carry out policies and directives of the Board.
- Ensure the golf community and partners receive excellent service from staff and volunteers.
Primarily Responsible For
- Conducting Events, Championships, USGA Qualifiers, and other events.
- Securing host sites for Association and USGA events.
- Rules of Golf education at the club and territory level.
- Course Rating & Handicap education for committees and member clubs.
- Handicapping and tournament management support for clubs and members.
- Development / long-range planning.
- Communications.
Detailed Primary Duties
Operational + Financial + Governance
Oversee day-to-day operations of association office
- Office Organization: Identify and assign responsibilities to staff. Revise titles and job descriptions as needed. Ensure staff understands role requirements. Include staff in periodic review/editing of job descriptions.
- Education & Training: Develop and conduct training where necessary. Encourage professional development through continuing education.
- Procedures: Ensure appropriate procedures are established and followed. Periodically review for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Personnel: Oversee employment advertising, selection, hiring, evaluation, promotion, separation, retirement, etc. Conduct annual evaluation interviews.
- Correspondence: Respond to general correspondence or delegate appropriately. Provide copies to the President/Committee chair when needed. Draft responses for the President or others as appropriate.
Oversee Association finances
- Budget: Draft and present an annual collective budget to Executive Committee and Board. Monitor income and control expenses to meet/exceed budget.
- Accounting: Ensure accounting procedures accurately track income/expenses. Generate financial reports and regularly provide to Board.
- Accounts: Monitor banking, investment, assets, inventory, depreciation, and expense accounts. Oversee AP/AR to maintain positive cash flow. Ensure invoicing, delinquency tracking, collections, and prompt bill payment.
- Salary Administration: Ensure accurate, timely payroll and appropriate records. Confirm proper withholding/deductions.
- Taxes: Ensure payroll, property, sales, city, state, federal, and retirement forms are filed and paid on time.
- Audit: Ensure books are reviewed as directed by the Board.
- Insurance: Monitor policies for appropriate coverage (liability, property damage/loss).
- Reimbursements: Review reimbursement requests for MVGA business expenses.
Represent the Association at meetings and functions
Locally
- Represent staff, Board, and Committees among member clubs, allied organizations, and the community.
Regionally / Nationally
- Represent the Association at USGA Annual Meeting, IAGA, Golf Industry Show, GHIN User’s meetings, and through service on USGA Committees.
Advise and assist Board of Directors and Standing Committees
- Annual Meeting: Schedule/coordinate the Association Annual Meeting with staff and Board assistance.
- Board Meetings: With the President, schedule meetings and set agendas. Attend all Board and Executive Committee meetings; present oral and written reports.
- Committee Meetings: Serve as ex-officio member of all Committees; attend meetings and provide input and guidance.
Personnel Development
Leadership
Lead, guide, motivate, support, and develop Association staff to deliver excellent service and achieve strategic goals.
- Meet individually with staff as needed to advise, coach, assist, and provide feedback.
- Hold team meetings periodically to build rapport, trust, and cooperation; review policy changes, Board directives, and upcoming projects/events; delegate responsibilities.
- Acknowledge and praise staff frequently for accomplishments; recognize privately and publicly; use creative rewards for strong performance.
Community Service

Committees & Board Service
Governance + Programs
Rules Committee
- Oversee Tournament Staff/Committee administration.
- Serve as a Rules Official at Association Championships, USGA Qualifiers/Championships, and other events as needed.
- Maintain and improve Rules knowledge through USGA/PGA workshops.
- Assist with Rules seminars for member clubs and individuals.
Tournament Committee
- Oversee Tournament Operations Manager’s administration.
- Assist with staff/volunteer scheduling.
- Assist with preparing for and conducting events on site as needed.
Site Location Committee
- Assist with securing host sites for Association and USGA events, qualifiers, and championships.
Membership / Public Relations Committee
- Oversee committee administration.
- Assist with member events as needed.
- Assist in determining email communication content.
Nominating Committee
- Work with chair to identify potential Board members.
- Conduct elections and report results to membership.
- Conduct new Board member orientation and assist with ongoing Board training.
